What is the AI discoverability score?
A 0 to 100 score for how well AI search tools can reach, read and cite your site, built from four weighted pillars.
The AI discoverability score is a number from 0 to 100 that shows how well AI search tools can reach, read and cite your website. WriteWorks works it out by crawling your own indexable pages, checking each one, and combining the results with what is actually happening for you in AI search. You'll find it in AI discoverability, under Measure in the sidebar, and as a card on your home page.
The score is built from four pillars, each with a weight. Bot access (35) asks whether AI search bots can fetch and read each page: robots.txt access, response speed, page size and how much of the main content is visible without JavaScript. Machine readability (30) checks for the structured data each page type needs, valid markup and an answer-first structure. Freshness signals (15) looks at dateModified, accurate sitemap lastmod dates and IndexNow notifications after a page changes. AI search performance (20) compares your visibility in tracked AI answers, visits from AI assistants and AI bot fetches over the last 28 days with your own best 28 days in the last 90, so it rewards improvement rather than size. A pillar or signal with nothing to measure yet is left out and the weights re-balance, so it never counts as zero.
Pages are weighted by their Google search clicks, so important pages count more than long-tail ones. One rule overrides everything else: if more than half of your indexable pages are blocked from every AI search bot, the score is capped at 40, and the Overview tells you when that has happened.
How to read your score
- Open AI discoverability from the Measure section of the sidebar. It opens on Overview.
- Read the score gauge and its band: 0 to 49 Poor, 50 to 69 Needs work, 70 to 89 Good, 90 to 100 Excellent.
- Check the four pillar cards to see which one is holding the score back. Click any card for the detail behind it.
- Review Top issues, which ranks problems by pages affected multiplied by the points each one costs.
- Use the history chart to see your score and each pillar across the last 10 crawls. The shaded zones show the bands.
- Pick an earlier crawl from the Crawl menu to see the whole report as it was then.
- Blocking AI training bots, such as GPTBot or CCBot, never costs score. Only AI search bots count.
- The trend and the Change columns fill in from your second crawl.
- Hover the ? icon on any card for a one-line definition.
Tip: start with Bot access. If AI search bots can't fetch a page, nothing else about that page can help it appear in AI answers.
