How do I build an AI content plan?
In Projects, Build content plan with AI walks you through four steps, then builds a plan document and a brief for every piece on a new board and calendar.
Projects can build a complete content plan for you from your connected data. You answer four short steps, and WriteWorks works out your quick wins and performance gaps, sets objectives and KPIs, writes a brief for every piece and adds them all to a new board. This article explains each step and what you get at the end.
The four steps are
- Goal: choose what the plan should achieve, such as Grow organic traffic, Convert more visitors, Win AI visibility, Overtake competitors or Build topical authority, with an optional secondary goal. Pick a Timeframe of 30, 60 or 90 days, how many pieces you want (5 to 30, one brief each) and a Board name. You can also add anything the plan should know, such as a launch date.
- Data: tick the connected data the plan should use (Search Console, Google Analytics 4, AI visibility, Competitors and the content scan) and what it should work on, such as Quick wins, Search gaps, AI answer gaps or Outdated and thin pages. If you tick nothing, the plan is built from your goal, topics and competitors alone.
- Content mix: set the intent mix across informational, commercial, transactional and navigational content, choose content types, add topic areas, and pick up to five competitors to compete with.
- Review: check your choices and the estimated AI tokens the build will use.
How to build a content plan
- Open Create → Projects.
- Click Build content plan with AI.
- Work through Goal, Data and Content mix, clicking Continue after each.
- On Review, check the summary and click Generate plan and briefs (the button shows your number of pieces, for example Generate plan and 10 briefs).
- Watch the build: WriteWorks reads your connected data, finds quick wins and gaps, sets objectives, KPIs and benchmarks, writes the briefs and adds them to your board.
- When it finishes, click Open the board or Open plan document.
You can close the window while it builds. The plan keeps building and appears on your boards when it is ready.
What you get
- A plan document with objectives, KPIs and targets, performance and CRO benchmarks, where your traffic comes from today and the schedule.
- A brief for every piece, with why it is in the plan, the angle, target terms, an outline, FAQs, a conversion plan and where to distribute it.
- Each brief scheduled on the Calendar in the week it is planned for, ready to track in Performance and Approvals.
The build uses your organisation's AI tokens, charged for what it actually uses. If you do not have enough left, top up or choose fewer pieces.
Tip: connect Search Console and Google Analytics 4 before you start. The plan can then set baselines from your real data instead of working from your goal alone.
